Mollie has recently signed a record deal with Island Records, and has been recording her debut solo music. Below she chats to GEIST about the upcoming music.
So as you prepare to embark on a solo career, what is the most exciting part of the process for you?
I've loved being in the studio and actually learning to write and learning about the production of songs. With The Saturdays it was so fast paced that often we didn’t have time to take things in, but I’ve been putting the album together for about a year and a half so I’ve loved being in the studio and working with different people. I’ve been working with different people that I’ve really looked up to which hasbeen really exciting. But I can’t wait to actually go out and perform! But I’m really nervous as well..I can’t wait to actually do it and for people to hear what I’ve been working on because it feels like I’ve been working on it for so long now. But all my friends and family who I’ve played things to they’ve all been like ‘oh this is great!’ but obviously they’re slightly biased! I can’t wait for people to hear it.
So you’re aiming for the soundtrack of the summer then?
OF COURSE! Yes. Totally.
What kind of sound are you going for?
Hmm it’s difficult to say - it’s definitely a pop record. I’ve been working with people who have worked with Nick Jonas - that gives you a kind of idea of the sound. It’s slightly more grown up than The Saturdays I’d say, but lyrically I would say it’s very personal to me. So every track on there is something I’ve been through so it’s definitely a personal record.
So you have a prominent stance in the fashion industry - what is it about fashion that sparks your interest?
I’ve always loved fashion. I studied fashion for A level as well so I’ve always loved and followed it. It’s just exciting how trends come and go so quickly, they go back to the sixties, seventies... it’s just a passion of mine really! But I love going to London Fashion Week, it’s something that I love to do in my down time. So it’s great that I can come on these shoots and be really experimental with things that I wear so it’s good that they can come in together!
