Perrie Drops 'You Go Your Way'
Global vocal sensation Perrie returns today with her new single 'You Go Your Way'.
‘You Go Your Way' is a powerful, mid-tempo pop anthem about starting a new chapter and finding the strength to start a new journey. Driven by a soaring and emotive vocal performance from Perrie, a pulsating bass builds to big and bold chorus that feels both empowering and cathartic.
The track was originally produced and released as an underground club single by London based dance duo Joy Anonymous, who played the song to Perrie in a writing session. Perrie fell in love with the track instantly and worked on it with Joy, recorded the vocals and enlisted the help of Scottish electronic producer Hudson Mohawke (whose recent credits include Charli XCX ‘Brat’) to add the final finishing touches.
The song tells the story of a time at the start of Perrie’s relationship with boyfriend Alex, when they were in the honeymoon stage and not yet ‘official’. Due to go away on tour in the US for several months, and worried about putting pressure on a very new relationship,
Perrie suggested to her now fiancé that they should pause their budding romance and go their separate ways. The song sums up the moment in a relationship where you need to be prepared to let someone go and live their life in the hope that the will one day return.
Perrie explains: "I told Alex, you go your way and I’ll go mine and if it’s meant to be we’ll find each other again when I am back. He wasn't happy this idea and made our relationship official there and then! Fast forward 8 years and we are very happy, engaged and have our beautiful son. I truly believe if you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it’s yours. If not it was never meant to be.”
The stunning video for the song premieres at 1pm today. It was directed by Charlie Di Placido (renowned for his videos with Jungle) and was shot completely in one take.
Perrie stepped out as a solo artist this year with her two solo singles ‘Forget About Us’ and 'Tears'. 'Forget About Us' smashed straight into the Official Charts Top 10 Singles Chart, topped The Official Big Top 40 from Global for two weeks and was the No.1 UK radio airplay record for an astonishing five weeks. Perrie then performed 'Tears' during a standout set at Capital Radio’s ‘Summertime Ball’ at Wembley Stadium, and also on BBC's 'The One Show'.
Perrie has spent the last year and half writing and recording her upcoming debut solo album, due for release in 2025. Across the eclectic and diverse record, she had a heavy hand in creating, there are nods to her rock n roll-influenced childhood, Motown, disco, country, 80s and, of course, bright, bold pop. The unifying thread is Perrie’s strong, soaring vocals that fearlessly grapple with each melody and top note.
